RCHK Year 10 and 11 students along with over 60 other participants from schools across Hong Kong participated in the Virtual STEM Competition! In teams of three, students worked together to build a home security system for a Lego structure using python code, incorporating features such as opening and closing a door, lamp, and alarm. Students were also encouraged to add enhancements and to present the entire process in a final presentation.
The event took place on Saturday, 14 November with the participation of special guests including Dr. Harry Brown, who gave the opening speech online, and Frederick Fotsch, STEM Education Manager for Texas Instruments, who asked questions of each team and provided support as well as the closing speech. Frederick was one of the programmers of the calculator the students used over the course of the project.
